Our Kyoto Romp!

Welcome to Kyoto! *Again*

The temptation of viewing the Momiji was too much even for Mimi to bear, so leaving our work behind *kind of* we left osaka to meet jason who was kind enuff to bring us around the kyoto we didn't get to see on our last organised tour *remember all the temple shots the last time?* Dont' Worry. This post will be different! :)

A rather unforgettable trip, since right at the start, Mimi and myself were 2hrs late meeting Jason. Someone had jumped onto the train tracks near Rinku Station (nearest station to our Institute) and we ended up waiting forever for the trains to resume services. they were announcing the incident over the intercom for the longest time. but mimi and i didn't understand a thing. so in the end, we asked a nice lady standing near us who informed us of the reason for the delay. i hope i meet more nice ladies in tohoku too. otherwise, my life looks bleak.

So first up. Right Outside Kyoto Station, we see 舞子(まいこ-maiko)or Geisha's apprentices. she was advertising a new black sesame flavour of Kyoto's speciality snack (mochi shaped like a triangle, with stuffing).

hanging out with jason is always an educational experience, and on the kyoto trip, mimi and i learnt how to say ''Philosophy'' In japanese. this is てつがく みち-tetsugaku michi (literaally translated into: Philosophy Street). Very nice place with little quainty-touristy shops that i loved!! and jason stays near here!

imagine that. but when we asked to visit he said no. boo hoo right! i would have like to see a japanese cave, really!!!
He has Mr Big and Mr Ugly&Dangerous and their cousins dropping in from time to time ....introducing....

Mr Big

Mr Ugly&Dangerous

ANYWAY... After a nice romp thru this street, we trotted off for an italian lunch! yumyum! very 'local' *read: if u ask me to bring me there, i'll never be able to do so* lunch was good (except for the WINE which Mr J finished up without ME!!!!!!) hahhaa!

we had some fusion starter dish, which included OYSTERS!!! dunno if it was pms or something.. i was SO CRAVING OYSTERS THAT DAY.....

Following lunch, we went to the Nishiki Market. Blardy Crowded!

at Nishiki Market, i met Joy (PS's colleague) and her husband while slowly being contracted down along the esophagus of the market...what a shock - couldn't remember her name there and then though, so i just said, "YOU'RE PS' FRIEND RIGHT?''. most dUH thing to say. and the worst part, 'YA! STEPHANIE RIGHT?' *redface*

yann! i though of u when i saw this! these are hand made cookie cutters! they cost too much though. but they made it there in the store...

trace, if u get married and have ur own home, i'll think of getting u these... but that's ALL ur getting from me from the rest of ur life. check out the TINY price tags....

------THE IDIOTS' GUIDE ------

How to Eat 2 Oysters in Nishiki Market -

the following pictures are in order... this is rather impt.

1) walk to the end of an impossibly loong queue and STAND & WAIT. can u see jason riiiight at the end?? the blurred image?

2) as you continue to wait, listen to the beautiful sounds of oyster after fresh oyster getting shucked... this should feed your already raging appetite...

3) finally realise how much each oyster costs: 150yen = S$2

4) WATCH OTHER PEOPLE sitting and slurping up oyster after oyster with great relish :|

5) Watch Oysters Grilling right in front of you. and, as a bonus, have bits of exploding shells flying in your face and on your clothes as a pre-entry baptismal ceremony.

6) US IN HEAVEN

anyway, on to something more sobering. u know where heaven on earth is for some in japan? under bridges, by rivers, in handcrafted mansions......

can you see where the lady is?

she's there... amidst the clutter and the collection.. she's there sitting with her cat. don't miss her.

  • Gosh, what pots are those? Pots that will put food into themselves, cook the food and serve it and then turn on autoclean function??? SO EXPENSIVE! That's reason enough for me to not get married! :-D

I like playing Where's Wally and am usually quite good at it, but I can't find Cat Lady in that last photo!!! *sobs*

  • AND. as far as i know, the pots are just - POTS. :| steel i guess.... precious metals and they don't have arms and legs, so they can't walk themselves to the sink and scrub themselves down with a sponge - unfortunately. haha! :)

  • Which random guy do you wanna see? Aiyah, they are just random guys, so no show and tell lah! I think it's your imagination that's making them cool!

As for em pots, if they can't sing and dance and cook and clean, they ain't worth it!

And hmm...looking at my room and what's left of my queen-sized bed, I think I'm a cat lady too! I should get in touch with my Kyoto counterpart!
