reflections on umbrellas
it just turned autumn about a month or so ago, but its started snowing! the snow started the day after my bday, on the 19th (eunice said that was my bday present!) and it has snowed twice more in the 3 days that followed. things really got to a head today when it snowed continuously from morning till... well it's still snowing NOW!
yesterday it snowed as well, but i was down and out so i simply canceled all my appointments, skipped lessons, and didn't even try to leave my room. but today, i figured that i HAVE to TRY to get out of my room, if not i'll turn into one of those 'hikikomori' types (hikikomoris are pple who hole themselves in their room and don't even come out for food type pple). mitsuru left early at 9am, but i wanted to go later, so i walked to school at about 3.20pm, and BOY WAS IT SNOWING. i mean. it was coming down in flakes. i don't mean those cute-cute-small-small types. i don't know if they were romantic flakes u see on those TV dramas that have their protagonists kissing in a flurry of romantic snow. i figure that whether or not those flakes are romantic or not depend on who ur with, and i was alone. so how romantic could those damned flakes have gotten right?!?! when i say Flakes, i mean the kind of flakes that come in thru the side, stick to your jeans cling to your hair type large flat flakes!
now, u must be wondering about why this post is titled so: reflections on umbrellas. right? well. as i was trying to figure out what do wear, how to wear it and what to bring for class today, it suddenly occurred to me: hey maybe i need to carry an umbrella!
then i told myself ... steph don't be stupid you'll look so uncool! umbrellas are for rain and thunderstorms! they're not used for snowy weather! look, u idiot, don't u remember nepal? do you remember carrying an umbrella trekking u stupid girl! of course not!!!!
then i decided to look out of the window, and LO AND BEHOLD, i saw pple holding umbrellas walking in the snow!
so... in spite of feeling abit uncool and stupid, i took my umbrella with me and stepped out. and...
boy did i make a good decision!!!! umbrellas are the BEST for snowy weather. if u didn't have an umbrella when it's snowing, one of two things will happen:
1) the snow will melt on your head cause ur head is hotter than the snow and will melt it, giving u wet hair. and wet hair when you're sick is not a good thing at all. and wet hair when you're not sick just simply makes you look MORE UNCOOL than you would have looked if u had carried the almighty umbrella.
2) the snow will collect on your head making u look like someone built a snowman on ur hair!!!!!
snow just collected on my umbrella like nobody's business, like it was having a party up there and, this is a fact, i was not invited to that party of snowflakes. the snowflakes only wanted to borrow my umbrella like someone borrows ur bbq pit for a bbq. it was just like that.
never laugh at pple for holding umbrellas in the snow. it may / may not be a japanese thing. but i think its a good idea. we should all teach our children that umbrellas are not just for when it rains, but also for when it snows.
its the same concept about the japanese hot toilet seat. if u had cold cold cold weather 6mths out of a year, do you not think that your ass would kick up a fuss if it didnt' have something warm to put itself against when it was doing u a favour?? u need ass muscles to pee and shit too, so take care of your ass by keeping it warm. do not make fun of the japanese hot toilet seats.
