Never Call a P a Pear
u see, i have this person in my life, called P. P is a rather mighty person in my workplace. P is immaculately dressed, impressively coiffed, everyday, 24hrs a day. P is the ePitome of Professionalism and Power.
one day, random, silly and talk-before-i-think Me, decides to say hi, but redecides that 'hi' is a rather boring thing to say on a beautiful tuesday morning. and the next thing that comes to mind and out of my mouth is, "you look like a pear" *insert bubbles of laughter*
disclaimer: look. the lady was looking immaculately dressed and impressively coiffed in a pale pastel yellow blouse, and a pale pastel green pants suit that looked absolutely fabulous! i just needed an image to describe it and that image just happened to be 'pear'.
back to the story:
P's response was -- *drumrolllsss*
"thank you"
imagine that! wow!
of course i walked away happy wappy and all till today, when P decides to haunt me back in this rather similar off-the-cuff manner.
P - your interview is soon right?
Me - yeah! next week friday at 4.30pm!
P - i can't wish you all the best cause i hope you dont' get it!
Me - *jawdrop* harh? that's so evil!!
P - i think you're too young!
Me - *jawdroptofloor* but you dont' even know how old i am!
P - it doesn't matter how old you are but how young you look! you don't look jaded or cynical....
Me - *wondering what jadedness or cynicism has to do with all of this* but how do you know i'm not parade a veneer of happy sunshine smiles and harbouring a cynical jaded heart inside?
P - *gives a once over* i don't believe you. you don't look jaded/cynical
Me - *thinks 'is it a crime to look young and happy?* Oh.
P - actually if it were me, i wouldn't have approved the application in the first place!
Me - that's Evil!
of course this entire conversation was conducted entirely in a civilised and pleasant tone (with the exceptions of my high pitched 'that's evil' that punctuated my vocabulary (no other word came to my mind except 'evil'. truly.)
how do you navigate the subtle slitherings of a master mind?
