etchings
i was inspired by ww to blog some of the poems that i wrote in the past. i have stopped writing already... (reflects on how much intensity i allow myself to express) ... the essence of artistic sensibility in all poems is held within a sustained dwelling on all elements that make up a moment. and i guess this poem, written on 5th may last year, reflects that in me. this is one of my favourites.
05 -05-05---
something happened last night.
made me
stop.
it was one of those dawnings
rather like a bolt
of lightning and blue.
the revelation of it all
of a kind you get
once upon a precious, glimmering whisper
lost in a misty realm of hope and strength
that hides my shame and reveals
me.
looking through boxes of tarnished
trinklets, dusty mementos of friendships forgotten,
testament to driftwood seaslosh years.
amidst all, a single earring glimmers seagreen
iridescent - keeping a half-
hope of Promise from someone i left
un-remembered.
when i opened up the box,
i stood amazed at its beauty
a brilliance time and my imagination dulled
and eroded.
a simple silverclasp threadlike
lay against a fake velvet whiteness -
the sickening pallor of the fabric only attended to the
singular beauty of that charmed trinklet
that before only held marred memories
in my mind.
i left it in its box because i was afraid it might
snap -
again -
'And so what if it does?'
what is lost when a thing of fragile beauty
breaks?
'Would you rather keep it out of sight and mind and memory
or would you take it out to expose its brilliance to tears
of joy-laughter-regret-pain -- Love?'
an accidental snap - perhaps -
at once leaving it imperfectly perfect,
at once keeping perfect
memories for another
once upon a time.
